How do I choose the right person ?
Before your first appointment, talk to the psychologist on the phone.
This is the right time to tell him about your situation and ask him:
- if he has the skills needed to treat your specific problem,
- what experience he has with cases like yours,
- what kind of approach he uses.
You can also ask him specific questions, such as:
- Where is his office? Is it easily accessible?
- What is his availability? Can he meet you at a time of the week that is convenient for you?
- How much does he charge?
Psychotherapy feels right and brings rewards when a relationship of trust is established between you and your psychotherapist. Keep asking questions! And if, after a few meetings, you still don’t feel trust, you have the right to continue your process with another professional.
