Mission


The primary mission of the Ordre des psychologues du Québec is to protect the public. To this end, the Ordre:

  • ensures the quality of services offered by members
  • promotes the development of the profession
  • defends citizens’ right to access psychological services

Specifically, the Ordre:

  • issues psychologist's and psychotherapist's permits and the various attestations enabling psychologists to engage in certain reserved activities;
  • monitors to identify cases of illegal practice of psychotherapy and usurpation of the title of psychologist;
  • receives reports from the public on the conduct of psychologists, investigates and, if necessary, files complaints with the Disciplinary Council;
  • conducts over 400 professional inspections each year;
  • offers continuing education;
  • ensures that its members complete a sufficient number of hours of continuing education;
  • publishes guidelines on best practices in psychology;
  • represents psychologists within the professional system and in dealings with mental health and human relations organizations;
  • informs members of the public of their rights;
  • engages with the media on topics related to psychology.
