Mission
The primary mission of the Ordre des psychologues du Québec is to protect the public. To this end, the Ordre:
- ensures the quality of services offered by members
- promotes the development of the profession
- defends citizens’ right to access psychological services
Specifically, the Ordre:
- issues psychologist's and psychotherapist's permits and the various attestations enabling psychologists to engage in certain reserved activities;
- monitors to identify cases of illegal practice of psychotherapy and usurpation of the title of psychologist;
- receives reports from the public on the conduct of psychologists, investigates and, if necessary, files complaints with the Disciplinary Council;
- conducts over 400 professional inspections each year;
- offers continuing education;
- ensures that its members complete a sufficient number of hours of continuing education;
- publishes guidelines on best practices in psychology;
- represents psychologists within the professional system and in dealings with mental health and human relations organizations;
- informs members of the public of their rights;
- engages with the media on topics related to psychology.
