Account conciliation
If a dispute about a fee arises between you and a professional, you can ask the Office of the Syndic of that person’s professional order for conciliation. If conciliation proves impossible, you can contact the secretary of the professional order to request arbitration.
Psychologists
If you are seeing a psychologist, contact the Office of the Syndic of the Ordre des psychologues du Québec to ask for account conciliation.
Physicians or members of another professional order who practice psychotherapy
The following professionals are regulated by their respective professional order:
- physicians
- nurses
- vocational guidance counsellors
- occupational therapists
- psychoeducators
- social workers and marriage and family therapists
- criminologists
- sexologists
This means that you must contact the Office of the Syndic of the professional order to which the professional belongs.
Psychotherapists who are not members of a professional order
As soon as they obtain their permit, psychotherapists who are not members of a professional order are under the authority of the Ordre des psychologues du Québec. Procedures for requesting account conciliation are the same for them as for psychologists.
Asking the Office of the Syndic of the Ordre des psychologues for account conciliation
If you want to apply for account conciliation, you must print the account conciliation request form, fill it out, and mail it to the Office of the Syndic of the Ordre des psychologues. You can also ask the Office of the Syndic, by phone or email, to send you this form.
If conciliation cannot be achieved, you can contact the secretary of the Ordre to ask for arbitration. To do so, fill out the account arbitration request form and send it to the Ordre, to the attention of the General Secretariat.
