Account conciliation

Account conciliation

If a dispute arises between you and your professional service provider regarding a fee account, you may submit a request for conciliation to the Office of the Syndic of your professional order. If conciliation is not possible, the person who submitted the request for conciliation may apply to the General Secretary of the Ordre for arbitration.

In the case of a psychologist

If you are consulting a psychologist, you must contact the Office of the Syndic of the Ordre des psychologues du Québec to request conciliation.

In the case of a physician or a member of another professional order who practices psychotherapy

The following professionals are governed by their respective professional orders:

  • Physicians
  • Nurses
  • Vocational guidance counsellors
  • Occupational therapists
  • Psychoeducators
  • Social workers and marriage and family therapists.

This means you must contact the Office of the Syndic of the professional order to which the psychotherapist belongs.

For psychotherapists who are not members of a professional order

As soon as they are licensed, psychotherapists who are not members of a professional order are supervised by the Ordre des psychologues du Québec. The procedures for requesting account conciliation are the same as for psychologists.
