What to expect?

Psychotherapy can take place in a number of different ways. However, keep in mind the following:

  • No subject is taboo in psychotherapy;
  • The psychotherapist's role is not to judge you, but rather to help you understand yourself and find solutions to your difficulties;
  • Psychotherapy is an active process that requires you to be willing to talk about yourself and open up to your psychotherapist.

Trust between psychotherapist and client is essential to the success of psychotherapy. The first step is always to make an informed choice. If you feel uncomfortable with your psychotherapist, don't hesitate to say so. You may work on this discomfort during your psychotherapy or be referred to another professional.

How long does psychotherapy last?

The duration of psychotherapy is variable and depends, among other things, on the nature of the problem that led you to seek help and the goals you and your psychotherapist have set for yourself. Psychotherapy can last from a few weeks to several months.

Is it necessary to take medication?

Psychotherapy is a form of treatment. In some cases, however, it may be advisable to combine it with medication. Your psychotherapist may recommend that you undergo a medical evaluation. The doctor will evaluate with you the possibility of adding medication to your psychotherapy. It's in your best interest to work with your doctor and psychotherapist.
